Description
2000 to 2010 = 10 years of Geocaching in Australia
Lane Cove was hidden on 18-May-2000, so 18-May-2010 will see the 10th anniversary of geocaching in Australia.
Geocaching Australia would like to have celebrated this momentous occasion by gathering all of the GCA members together in one place for a fun event. With the Wagga Wagga Mega-Event in April this year and a number of members in more rural and remote locations the logistics are simply too hard to arrange.
So instead, and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of geocaching in Australia we will be doing a few things virtually rather than physically with the intent of bringing GCA members together, regardless of where they may be located.
Firstly.
We would like to get as many GCA caches hidden and published on the 18-May-2010 as we can as part of the celebration. To encourage you to hide a quality GCA cache we are going to have a special anniversary pathtag minted to be given away as a reward to cachers who hide a GCA cache and have it published on 18-May-2010. See the link below for more information on qualifying to log this cache.
http://forum.geocaching.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13830
Secondly
Upon listing and publishing your cache you will be eligible to log this locationless cache. When you log the locationless cache you are asked to provide a link back to your cache listing along with any comments you wish to make in your log. To make a link back to your cache listing simply copy the HTML code below, replace GAnnnn with the GA number of your cache and replace The Name Of Your Cache with the actual name of your cache. Please leave in the " marks. If you make a mess of it one of your kindly admins will be along occassionally to fix it for you.
<a href="http://geocaching.com.au/cache/GAnnnn">The Name Of Your Cache</a>
Thirdly
We invite you to mark the anniversary by gathering together in the forums and via a special event cache listed on Geocaching Australia. We will post a special forum thread for the virtual gathering and create a special cache listing for the event. The event will have physical co-ordinates but it will be ONLY a virtual event. The co-ordinates will be location of the Geocaching Australia server which is in a secured co-location data centre and will not be accessible. The event is a virtual event for all and sundry to join in on and make a log of what you have done and enjoyed over the last 10 years of geocaching in Australia. The thread detalis will be posted in the not too distance future.
So come one, come all, create your listing, future publish it (see the thread above for instructions) and log your cache here to claim this locationless cache.
We really hope you will join in the fun.

We're on our way. W00t!

Logs
May 2010
On 18 May 2010 I was travelling the Great Central Road, finding a few remote caches by way-finder, so I didn't get a Round Tuit until 21 May, then as I tried to log the find my wifi connection fell in a heap, the last straw in a long run of unfortunate events in the first week of a 6 month long trip.
Looking forward to finding some of these new gca caches, but I only noticed two NT caches in the latest update, and won't get near them this year. Hopefully Qld will be better, if I can just keep the wifi running.

I hope C@W won't mind, but rather than putting a link to all my caches I'll just put a link to my hides. It's obvious which are the 10th GCA anniversary caches.
I must admit that part of these caches isn't finished yet. I want to add one of my top 10 geocaching memories to each cache listing but haven't yet done this. At least all the hides are a nice, solid Sistema!
Thank you for giving us a way to celebrate geocaching in Australia this way. Geocaching has added so much enjoyment to the past few years, which have been difficult ones for me in my non-caching life. And as much as I have enjoyed caching overseas as well, there's no place like home.

I have planned this cache specially for the 18th. I hope others will enjoy this location as much as me and my family do from time to time. It is a place to wind down and enjoy nature, in the company of friends, mixed with a bit of local history.

Geocaching has been such a buzz for us. We found it by accident and in our ignorance, while touring Tasmania, couldn’t understand why there were some locations where there were signs or plaques but no cache. It was later on that we were to learn that those sites were the start of multies!
“It takes you to interesting places you would otherwise never bother goingâ€. Such an overused but never- the-less, oh so true comment that says it all. An activity that we’ve found encompasses everybody and doesn’t discriminate against ability/disability, creed, race, or social background.
We’ve only recently clocked our first 1000 and wonder just where we‘ll be in 10 years time!
Our gratitude and thanks to the team that set this site up and continue to maintain it.
