Description

Into plane spotting? Then this may be a cache for you.

Located at the end of the East - West runway at Tullamarine International Airport, this cache location is perfect for watching planes take off and land.

If you check the google maps you will see a homestead near GZ. Fear not, the homestead is long gone and there is nothing in this area apart from a few old fences and escaped garden plants to mark the passage of time.

You are more than far enough away from the control tower with trees in the way and as such you won't be spotted. You may need to watch out for the odd security car along the perimeter boundary, but you are well away from the perimeter fence and this is a natural location for people to be watching planes take off and land.

The physical cache itself is a recycled container from down Williamstown way, but it happened to fit in rather nicely in the hiding area.

You are seeking a 500ml container which has been disguised is a slightly different manner to what you should expect. The cache is not hard to find however an you should be in and out in quick fashion. That is of course, unless you want to watch a plane coming in and taking off.

I hope you enjoy this cache.

Hints

Under the wooden fence line, in the ouchy plants, under the piece of treated pine paling.

Parked in the general vicinity and left the 3yo in the car, but free to roam. Since it was raining she chose to sit in the front seat and watch me hunt, calling out periodically "Have you found it yet?"

Didn't bother turning the GPS on as I thought, how hard could it be to spot, so wandered about 150m down the fence line before easily finding the cache.

Had previously picked up Down the Line #1 and had it in my pocket so the 3yo didn't vanish it... returned to the car to find it was no longer in my pocket. Thankfully found it after retracing my steps (and yes, it was still raining).

TNLN definitely an area I never would have otherwise visited Smile

Found @ 1755.

A nice spot to watch the planes landing with a great noise. Cache was soon found but I lingered for a while watching the planes.

Have not been this far down the road before, saw lots of planes landing. Parked very close to the cache and spotted an object that turned out to be hiding the cache. I wonder what happened to the house that used to be close by.

Well, this was a new area for us. We have been down the other road along the fence line many times but were not aware of this one that gets you so close to the east-west runway. Unfortunately it was not in use while we were there due to the strong southerly wind dictating all aircraft use the north-south strip.
A short search and the item was in hand. (I think I do recognise it from the Rifle Range hide.)
Got rid of the leaking bubble bath container, cleaned the cache up a little and duly signed the log.
Our thanks to c@w for the cache and bringing us to a new vantage point we were not aware of.
Cheers
